Goals on goals on goals: Saturday onslaught sets MLS record for most goals in a single day

It's been a wild day in MLS. As it turns out, it may have been the wildest day in MLS history.

On Saturday MLS teams combined for 39 goals, the most in a single day in MLS history according to the Elias Sports Bureau. August 1, 2015 has topped May 28, 2011, when the previous record was set. On that day, 30 goals were scored, highlighted by a six-goal outburst from the Philadelphia Union against Toronto FC.

Saturday's slate was highlighted by a 10-goal explosion in the nation's capital where D.C. United and Real Salt Lake faced off. United won the game behind six goals, including at least two golazos (you can see one above).
