All-Star: Clint Dempsey doesn’t think his time at White Hart Lane will really help vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Clint Dempsey with Tottenham

Cool-as-ever Clint Dempsey doesn’t mind getting asked about his time at Tottenham over and over during AT&T MLS All-Star week.

He fielded plenty more questions about his old club at Tuesday morning’s All-Star training session at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park—and he still came across as peak, chill Deuce.

Dempsey held serve with a scrum of sweaty reporters, while expertly catching balls and other merch from fans in the stands, signing them with a marker, then tossing them back without ever breaking stride or getting distracted.

So how does he think his stint with the English Premier League team – for which he played from 2012 to 2013 – is going to help when the MLS All-Stars face them Wednesday night (9 pm ET on FOX Sports 1, UniMas, TSN and RDS)?

“There’s only a few players I played with when I was there. We had a different coach when I was there,” he said. “It’s probably not going to [help].”

That echoed remarks he made at yesterday’s All-Star press conference. “I still stay in touch with Yedlin,” he said then. “A lot of faces have changed since I was there. But if [All-Star head coach] Pablo [Mastroeni] wants to ask me some questions, I’ll try to help him out.”

While Dempsey may have a hard time recognizing Spurs, Tottenham surely haven't forgotten Deuce.

"Obviously, playing with Clint at Tottenham and seeing his capability of what he can do on the ball, he’s also very good and very dangerous," Tottenham's Kyle Walker said at Monday's All-Star press conference. "Obviously I haven’t had a chance to play against some of the other [All-Stars], but they’ve proved in other leagues of their capabilities and qualities.

"We’re going to have of be on our game and it’s going to be a good test and one that I’m looking forward to."
