Transfer Watch: Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton confirms contact with several MLS teams

Transfer Watch: Leon Britton

One week after reports first surfaced that linked him to the league, Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton has confirmed that he’s been in touch with several teams in MLS.

Britton, 32, has spent the better part of 13 seasons with Swansea, making nearly 500 total appearances for the Welsh club. He has two years left on a deal with the English Premier League side, but it was reported last week that he’s ready to make a move after seeing his playing time dwindle last year.

“There has been dialogue with a few people in America but there have been no offers at the moment,” Britton told the BBC on Wednesday.

“Football is football, things can change so quickly.”

Britton did not travel to Germany with Swansea’s first team for their current preseason camp, choosing to stay behind in Wales to get game minutes with the club’s Under-21 side. According to last week’s report, several American clubs are interested in the experienced midfielder, with the New York Red Bulls reportedly among them.
