The Montreal Impact are reportedly interested in acquiring one of Costa Rica’s Gold Cup midfielders, Johan Venegas, a Costa Rican outlet reported on Wednesday. Montreal faced Venegas and his club team, Alajuelense in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, with Venegas playing the full 90 minutes in both legs, and notching an assist in the second as Montreal advanced to the final.

Venegas, 26 years old, has spent the last two years at Alajuelense, scoring 17 goals in 72 league appearances with the Costa Rican giants. He appeared in all three of Costa Rica’s Gold Cup group stage games, starting and playing 59 minutes in their opener against Jamaica, playing 36 minutes off the bench in their draw against El Salvador and playing the full 90 in their group play finale against Canada.

Venegas and the Ticos finished second in Group B, and will face Mexico in the Gold Cup quarterfinals on Sunday.
