Could Alberto Aquilani finally be making a move to Major League Soccer?

An Italian outlet reported on Wednesday that Aquilani – long linked to MLS – is considering a move to the Montreal Impact. The 30-year-old midfielder is out of contract after spending the last three seasons at Serie A club Fiorentina.

Aquilani’s agent, Andrea D’Amico, told media in April that the Italian international was considering a summer move to MLS.

“He’s a player with a great record,” D’Amico said in the report. “I haven’t spoken to anyone, but I’m sure we’ll get a satisfactory outcome, a high-level project, whether that’s in Italy or abroad.

“The MLS, where [Toronto FC’s Sebastian] Giovinco now plays, will soon become an important league with all the multimedia communication which we’ve neglected.”

Aquilani, who spent an ill-fated three years at English Premier League club Liverpool from 2009-2012, has 38 career caps with the Italian national team and was a member of the Azzurri at the 2014 World Cup. He made 25 Serie A appearances, including 17 starts, with Fiorentina last season.
