Jamaica will look to wrap up the top spot in Group B when they take on El Salvador on Tuesday at Toronto’s BMO Field.

The Reggae Boyz are riding high after a 1-0 victory over Canada on Saturday thanks to a stoppage-time goal by Rodolph Austin. Coupled with their group-opening draw against Costa Rica, Jamaica can claim the No. 1 spot with a win or draw. El Salvador, with draws against Canada and Costa Rica, can win the group with a victory and Costa Rica loss or draw.

WHY STOP THERE: Jamaica have likely already sealed a spot in the knockout round, but following their dramatic win over the Canadians over the weekend, they’re aiming much, much higher. Fullback Adrian Mariappa hinted to the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper that the team has its sight set on a first Gold Cup title.

“We're a very motivated group, and we believe in each other, and that's what's motivating us going forward because we know that we can achieve things," the Crystal Palace man told the Gleaner. “So this tournament is something we're all very focused about, achieving what we think we can. So going into the next game, we definitely want to get another positive result.”

RIGHT IN TIMBERS BACKYARD: We know about El Salvador’s MLS connections with Orlando City SC’s midfielder Darwin Ceren and former San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake midfielder Arturo Alvarez. But a player with a bit more of an intangible connection to an MLS club came up with a gigantic contribution in Los Cuscatlecos’ 1-1 draw with Costa Rica over the weekend. Dustin Corea, who grew up in Milwaukie, Ore., a suburb of Portland, and played for East Side United FC, now part of the Timbers’ youth developmental hierarchy, scored in stoppage time to keep his country alive in Group B.

Corea, the Class 6A state player of the year with Milwaukie High School in 2009, currently plays for El Salvadoran club CD FAS.
