A few quick facts about Sebastian Giovinco's nine-minute, first-half hat trick for Toronto FC

You might be used to hearing this by now, but Sebastian Giovinco is having himself a day.

The Toronto FC star's quality is well-known to anyone who's been paying attention to MLS this season, but he outdid himself once again on Sunday afternoon, grabbing a first-half hat trick on the road at New York City FC.

He netted his and TFC's first with a 34th-minute penalty, thumped home a lovely backheel pass from Jackson in the 40th, and capped his outstanding stretch with a one-time chipped finish in the 43rd. Not bad, considering he also missed a penalty kick in the 18th minute.

The hat trick was significant for a number of reasons.

For one, it was the first hat trick in MLS play by any Toronto FC player. Additionally, the three-goals in a nine-minute span are tied for the third fastest hat trick in MLS history – only Harut Karapetyan (five minutes) and Alejandro Moreno (eight minutes) have been faster.
