Could the Portland Timbers be adding another Argentine attacker?


Reports in recent days have linked the Timbers to 22-year-old Argentine forward Lucas Melano. The 6-foot-1 striker has spent the last two years at Lanús – Portland midfielder Diego Valeri’s former club – scoring eight goals in 38 games for the Primera side. He began his career at fellow Argentine first-division club Belgrano, where he bagged seven goals in 44 appearances.



One Argentine outlet went as far as to confirm that Melano would sign with Portland, though Timbers owner Merritt Paulson shot that down on Twitter on Friday morning.

Should he sign, Melano – who reportedly is represented by the same agency as former Portland striker Jose Adolfo Valencia – would become the Timbers’ fifth Argentine along with Valeri, attacker Gaston Fernandez, defender Norberto Paparatto and forward Maximiliano Urruti
