U.S. Soccer confirms USMNT will face Peru on Sept. 4 in Washington, D.C. in first game after Gold Cup

The US national team is focused on the CONCACAF Gold Cup, but their post-Gold Cup plans are coming into focus, starting against a nation coming off of a surprise run in their own continental tournament.


On Wednesday, U.S. Soccer announced that the US will face Peru on Sept. 4 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The match is set to start at 7 pm ET and will be aired on FOX Sports 1, UniMás and UDN.


Peru are coming off of a surprise run to third place in last month's Copa América, CONMEBOL's continental championship, after finishing second in a group that included Brazil and Colombia.



The US and Peru last met on Feb. 16, 2000, in Miami. The USA prevailed by a 1-0 score, improving their all-time record against the South American nation to 2-2-1.


RFK will host the US for the 23rd time, the most of any venue. In the previous 22 matches, the US have posted a 14-3-5 record with an average attendance of 30,183 fans.


The last time the US played in the nation's capital, Jurgen Klinsmann's team defeated the world's No. 2-ranked tea,m Germany, 4-3, in front of 47,359 fans in the 2013 Centennial Celebration game in honor of U.S. Soccer's 100-year anniversary.
