American Exports: Cesar Romero helps FC Pyunik advance in UEFA Champions League qualifying

Rubio Rubin scores his first goal for FC Utrecht

AMSTERDAM – Cesar Romero and FC Pyunik eased into the second qualifying round of the Champions League with a 2-1 victory (4-2 on aggregate) over second-leg hosts Folgore.

The impending free agent, who scored in the home leg, drew saves with three of his nine shot attempts and delivered several tempting restarts.

If Romero does not sign elsewhere by next Tuesday, he will be available to Pyunik when they begin the next round of qualifying away to Josh Gatt, Ethan Horvath and Molde FK.

Meanwhile, Rubio Rubin kicked off his FC Utrecht preseason with a pair of goals in their 3-0 away defeat of second-flight Achilles '29.

The Under-20 World Cup standout buried a terrific Nassir El Aissati cross for Utrecht's second on 57 minutes and then rounded off a nice team move by tapping in the capper 11 minutes from time.
