American Exports: Viking says defender AJ Soares in line for quick return after suffering concussion

A.J. Soares with Viking

AMSTERDAM – Europa League chasers Viking expect defender A.J. Soares to make a quick comeback from a mild concussion, but are unsure if it will happen with Saturday's Tippeligaen visit from Aalesund FK.

The Dark Blues center back missed their weekend loss at Strømsgodset as a precaution after suffering a knock to the head during a June 28 home win over Sarpsborg 08. However, the team's medical staff is confident Soares will be back in the game sooner rather than later.

"I don't think it will be too long," Viking press officer Tore Espedal told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "He is back in training."

Soares has been a standout since arriving from the New England Revolution this past winter. Viking have a 7-1-2 record with four shutouts in the 10 league games he has started, and are 1-4 while allowing over two goals per match when he is not in the lineup.
