American Exports: Injured Mjøndalen defender Rhett Bernstein still three weeks away in Norway

Rhett Bernstein

AMSTERDAM – Mjøndalen defender Rhett Bernstein is aiming to make his return from a hamstring strain when the Tippeligaen battlers visit Quentin Westberg's Sarpsborg 08 on July 26.

The center back, who is tied for the team scoring lead with four goals, went down after coming on as an early injury sub in their NM Cupen win over Hødd late last month. Bernstein entered in the 19th minute but did not last 15 minutes before hobbling off himself.

Now relegated to training on the side, Bernstein has already been ruled out for Sunday's visit from Zarek Valentin, Danny Cruz and Bodø/Glimt. A two-week break directly follows that match, with the American shooting to rejoin his teammates for full training during that span.

"[Bernstein] is hoping to be back [to playing] after the pause," Mjøndalen press officer Ole Siverysen told MLSsoccer.com. "He told me he was hoping it would three to four weeks at most, and it's already been a week-and-a-half [since the injury]."

Currently winless in seven league matches, Mjøndalen stand a point above the danger zone in 12th place at the season's midway point.
