Did former USMNT and LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan subtweet his former coach on Tuesday night?

After the US women's national team defeated Germany on Tuesday night, Donovan sent out this tweet highlighting the importance of forward Abby Wambach's presence on the team:

July 1, 2015

Some would say he was making a comment directed at US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who famously left Donovan off his 2014 FIFA World Cup roster. Was he making a comment about how he could have brought that presence to the team last year in Brazil? FOX Sports analyst Alexi Lalas sure seemed to think so:

On Wednesday morning, Donovan went on The Dan Patrick Show and "cleared the air," saying he didn't mean it with any kind of negative connotation.

"I wish I was bright enough to do that, it would have been pretty funny," Donovan said.
