US U-23 national team goalkeeper Cody Cropper applauds US fans

AMSTERDAM – Free-agent goalkeeper Cody Cropper has joined promoted Championship side MK Dons on a one-year deal with a club option for a second.

The US U-23 netminder, who arrives after running out of contract at Southampton, took part in his first training session under new boss Karl Robinson on Tuesday.

“Cody has got tremendous potential and he fits the type of the person we want around the place,” Robinson told the official Dons website. “He's a good size, got a great work ethic and wants to learn.”

Cropper, who also had offers from MLS and a small group of English clubs that included Bristol City, sounded eager to clock in at his new job. The Georgia native is initially expected to fight for the backup role behind veteran David Martin, who has been Robinson's No. 1 at the club for five seasons.

"It's a great opportunity for myself and I'm very pleased to be here,” Cropper said. “I want to push on and develop as a goalkeeper.”

The new Championship season opens on August 8, with MK Dons slated to open at Rotherham.
