American Exports: Zarek Valentin steps up as Bodo/Glimt win on the road, move out of last place

Montreal Impact's Zarek Valentin celebrates Bodo Glimt's return to the Norwegian top flight

AMSTERDAM – Zarek Valentin contributed a couple of key second half plays as Bodo/Glimt lept clear of the Tippeligaen cellar with a 2-1 late rally win at Valerenga on Sunday night.

Eight minutes after Daniel Fredheim Holm opened the second half by putting the hosts ahead, Valentin robbed Jamaica forward Deshorn Brown with a huge goal-line clearance. The former Montreal right back wasn't done making an impact, though, as he released Trond Olsen to set up Alexander Sorloth's picturesque 81st minute equalizer. Olsen then bagged the last-gasp winner, handing Glimt their first road win in league play for 10 months and their first win at Valerenga in a decade.

Elsewhere, A.J. Soares marshaled the backline as Viking grabbed control of the last Europa League slot with a 3-1 home victory over Sarpsborg 08. With Quentin Westberg watching from the away dugout, Soares & Co. jumped past Valerenga by starting their third Tippeligaen win streak of the last two months.
