New England Revolution officially part ways with Honduran international Jerry Bengtson

The New England Revolution announced on Tuesday that they have mutually agreed to part ways with forward Jerry Bengston, releasing the Honduran international nearly one year after sending him on loan to Argentine first-division side Belgrano.

Bengston, 28, signed a Designated Player deal with New England in July 2012. He appeared in 36 regular season games with the Revs, making 23 starts and scoring four goals before moving to Belgrano last July. His loan to Argentina is scheduled to end on June 30.

While Bengston didn’t live up to expectations with New England, he thrived on the international level during his time with the Revs, playing a big role for Honduras at the 2012 Olympics and making Los Catrachos’ roster for the 2014 World Cup.
