Transfer Watch: New York City FC reportedly signing Spanish defenders Andoni Iraola, Angelino

Andoni Iraola - Transfer Watch

Defensive reinforcements might be on the way for New York City FC.

According to a tweet from NYCFC radio commentator Glenn Crooks, the club is set to sign a pair of Spanish defenders in the near future. Crooks cited a "strong source" that said right back Andoni Iraola, 32, and 18-year-old left back Jose Angel Tasande – also known as Angelino – will be added to NYCFC's roster.

There has been no official announcement from the expansion team, but it could use some defensive help after seeing the backline deal with a number of injuries and suspensions through the first four months of the season.

Iraola is coming off his latest season with Athletic Bilbao. He's been with the club since 2003, making more than 500 league appearances for the Spanish outfit. Iraola has also represented Spain at the international level, earning seven caps from 2008-2011.

Angelino is currently on the books at Manchester City, which is NYCFC's sister club. There was no word in the tweet as to whether he would join New York City FC via a loan or full transfer.
