Women's World Cup: USA's Abby Wambach on verge of tournament's goal-scoring record

US women's national team forward Abby Wambach

The next Abby Wambach World Cup goal will be a big one.

The USWNT striker comes into the USA’s tournament-opening match Monday against Australia at Winnipeg Stadium (7:30 pm ET on FOX Sports 1, NBC Universo in USA and TSN Network in Canada) with 13 Women’s World Cup goals, one behind Germany’s Birgit Prinz and Brazil’s Marta for the most all time.

The 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year and veteran of three World Cups is the USWNT’s all-time leading scorer with 182 goals in 242 appearances. Of course with both Wambach and Marta still playing large roles on their respective teams, the chase to become the WWC’s all-time leading goal scorer is likely to continue through the tournament.
