Landon Donovan's relationship with US men's national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann may be icy at best, but the retired American striker is not dwelling on the past.

Donovan was recently asked his opinion about everything that happened between he and Klinsmann a year ago - when the US head coach controversially left Donovan off the World Cup roster - and revealed he has a new perspective on things. Donovan is no longer bitter about the decision and is now aware more than ever of what kind of positive impact he can have on US Soccer moving forward.

"For me, now, I see the sort of big picture of it and I know I'm going to be around US Soccer a lot longer than any one coach will be," Donovan told Bleacher Report. "I can see the big picture and I'm happy to move past it. But it was obviously not an easy time in my life."

The 33-year-old Donovan was recently with the US U-20 team at the World Cup in New Zealand. While he had been serving as a mentor of sorts to the next generation of talent, he is still not employed. There might be a position of interest for him in Switzerland, however.
