FIFA-financed film "United Passions" tanks at US box office on opening weekend | SIDELINE

Sepp Blatter, president of FIFA

Embroiled in scandal, FIFA found no solace on the silver screen this weekend.

United Passions, a film financed by FIFA that details the governing body's history, had a shockingly poor opening weekend at the US box office, earning just $607 – yes, six-hundred and seven – on Friday and Saturday in the 10 theaters it was released in. Nine of those dollars came from a solitary observer at a Phoenix theater, and a sizable percentage of the take came from journalists who bought a ticket to interview non-existent filmgoers

Full weekend numbers have not been made available yet, but the release of the flick came just days after Sepp Blatter stepped down as FIFA president following the indictment of 14 officials on corruption charges.
