U-20 World Cup: Orlando City's Bryan Rochez forces own goal vs. Germany, but Honduras eliminated

Bryan Róchez, Honduras

Orlando City SC forward Bryan Rochez continued his strong FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign on Sunday, but his offensive contribution wasn't enough to save his Honduras side from elimination in a 5-1 defeat to Germany.

Rochez was unlucky not to score his third goal of the tournament as his well-struck half-volley smacked the post before rebounding into the net off the back of German goalkeeper Marvin Schwabe for what would be ruled as an own goal (watch here).

That goal leveled the proceedings in a decisive Group F game, but the Germans would go on to score four unanswered as they completed a perfect group-stage run. The result left Honduras third in their group, but their three points and minus-six goal differential were not enough to see them advance as one of the four best third-place teams.

Rochez, along with Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Deybi Flores, end their time in New Zealand having gone the full 90 minutes in all three of Honduras' games.

Sunday's games also marked the conclusion of the group stage, with Uzbekistan earning second place in Group F thanks to a 3-0 win over Fiji, while Brazil (3-0 vs. North Korea) and Nigeria (2-0 vs. Hungary) also picked up wins in Group E.
