Four most recent Liga MX, Copa MX champs to face off in historic doubleheader at FC Dallas' Toyota Stadium

Get ready for Mexico’s best, Dallas.


Liga MX, together with Univision Deportes, announced Friday that they will host an unprecedented doubleheader featuring some of the most recent Liga MX and Copa MX champions on July 20 at FC Dallas’ Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.


The event, which will continue to be held annually in the US, will feature the Campeón de Campeones (Champions of Champions), the emblematic Mexican championship match between the winners of the two most recent Liga MX tournaments, and the SuperCopa, which will pit the winners of two of the most three recent Copa MX competitions.


The doubleheader begins at 6:30 pm ET with the SuperCopa between Puebla, the Copa MX Clausura 2015 champions, and the Copa MX Clausura 2014 winners, Monarcas Morelia, who take 2014 Apertura champions Santos Laguna's place after that team earned a berth in the later game with their 2015 Liga MX Clausura win. The winner will earn Mexico's third berth to the 2016 Copa Libertadores, South America's most prestigious club competition.



The soccer showcase will continue at 9:30 pm ET with Campeón de Campeones, the storied Mexican championship that originated in 1942, which will be the first edition of the overall title match since 2006. 2014 Apertura champions Club América, also the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League winners will face Santos, the most recent Liga MX champions, to decide the absolute 2014-15 Mexican champion.
