USMNT’s Aron Johannsson can’t stop scoring amazing goals, even in training | SIDELINE

Aron Johannsson, US national team (May 27, 2014)

To use the parlance of our times, Aron Johannsson is on one.

How better to explain how US soccer’s favorite Icelandic-American keeps churning out highlight-reel goals, even in practice?

Johannsson recently finished off the Eredivisie season in rampaging form, notching four goals and three assists in AZ Alkmaar’s last five league games, including a two-goal, one-assist performance on the final day of the campaign featuring a dazzling bicycle-kick strike.

And now “AJ” has conjured up a similarly spectacular finish during the US national team’s training session in Amsterdam on Wednesday morning as Jurgen Klinsmann’s side prepares for Friday’s friendly vs. the Netherlands.

Should his USMNT teammates have greeted Johannson’s vicious sidewinding volley with a bit more excitement? Or is the understated reaction just a promising sign of how focused and driven the squad is ahead of two extremely tough matchups against European powerhouses?
