The US women's national team are the favorites to lift the trophy in Vancouver, according to FiveThirtyEight.com.

Using their Women's Soccer Power Index, the website built a forecasting model that calculates each country's chances during the World Cup.

The model gives the US a 28 percent chance of winning the cup, just one percent more than Germany. The hosts, Canada, are given a 7 percent chance of winning, good for the fifth highest percentage behind Japan and France.

Both of Major League Soccer's home nations are almost certain to reach the knockout stages, as the US have a 96 percent chance of advancing while the Canadians have a 93 percent chance of reaching the round of 16.

But FiveThirtyEight ran the same model before the men's World Cup last year, and Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd & Co. might want to look away.

Brazil were given the best chance of winning by a large margin, sitting at a hefty a 45 percent chance. Of course, the host nation were undone in the semifinals by the eventual winners, Germany, who were given an 11 percent chance of winning.
