AMSTERDAM – Recently-crowned 2. Bundesliga champs Ingolstadt have wasted little time tying down US midfielder Alfredo Morales with a three-year contract extension.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Audi Boys from Hertha Berlin two summers back, notched two goals and six assists in 32 league contests this season. MLSsoccer.com has learned that Morales, who was set to run out of contract at the end of June, had pre-deal proposals from a handful of 2. Bundesliga sides. However, Ingolstadt quickly made sure he would return for their inaugural Bundesliga campaign.

"Alfredo is an important part of our team," FCI sport director Thomas Linke told the club website. "He is also not done developing. We are delighted that he will continue with us."

By winning the title, Morales became the sixth American to raise the championship trophy in Germany's second flight, following John Anthony Brooks (Hertha, 2013), Tony Sanneh (FC Nurnberg, 2004), Thomas Dooley (Homburg 1986), Conor Casey and Steve Cherundolo (both with Hannover 96 in 2002).
