Robbie Keane's message to Steven Gerrard: "You're coming over here to win things"

Robbie Keane and the LA Galaxy celebrate vs. Chicago Fire, March 6, 2015.

Robbie Keane has a clear message for soon-to-be LA Galaxy teammate Steven Gerrard: We are expected to win trophies.

In an interview with ESPN FC, the reigning MLS and MLS Cup MVP laid it all out there when asked about the English midfielder, who will join the Galaxy in July after wrapping his legendary Liverpool career on Sunday.

"The problem is I think with people in Europe – and this won't be Stevie's case because I've already told him how difficult the league is here – is that people think they're coming over here to finish their career and it's a holiday,” said Keane, who played one season with Gerrard at Liverpool. “But when you play for the Galaxy, that's not the case. You're coming over here to win things, because that's what is expected because we're one of the biggest teams in the MLS and we have standards here."

“This league is a tough, tough league.”

Keane has missed the Galaxy’s last seven games while dealing with a groin injury. LA have struggled without the Irish international, going winless in their last five and losing 4-0 at Orlando City SC in their last match. Keane did make his return to training this week, and told ESPN he is "ready to go" for Friday night's game at home to the Houston Dynamo.
