Bonus Points: How much are double game week players actually earning you?

I was asked an interesting question last week, and one that I thought deserved an answer: In terms of price changes, how are the double game week players performing? The DGWs provide players two chances to add or subtract from their fantasy value. How can you best take advantage of that?

Here are all of the price change results for DGW players who participated in at least 45 minutes of a double game week. The results are pretty eye-opening, especially if we view them on a per-position basis:

Number of DGW Price Changes by Position
Price Change -0.3 -0.2 -0.1 0.0 0.1 0.2 0.3
GKP 0 0 3 6 2 2 0
DEF 0 0 8 39 15 2 1
MID 1 0 11 47 9 2 0
FWD 0 0 2 13 8 4 0

Unsurprisingly, a majority of the players do not change in value. Most of the time, players fall within the “no-change” point range, no more than two points above or below the average.

Goalkeepers do a decent job of retaining their value: 30 percent of goalkeepers have increased in value, and only 23 percent have decreased. The same can be said for defenders, with 26-percent increases and 12-percent decreases. Midfielders have been less than stellar, with 16 percent rising up and 17 percent going down.

The forwards are the most interesting, though: only 7 percent (two out of 27) of DGW forwards have lost value over the course of the two matches. I don’t know about you, but I like those odds. Fourty-five percent have seen gains, with 15 percent of the forwards raking in $0.2 in fantasy value. Bling, bling!

Will this affect how you think about your upcoming DGW transfers? The more team value you have, the more flexible you can be with future transfers, which may definitely come into play if players like Clint Dempsey, Kei Kamara, and Bradley Wright-Phillips keep rising in price as all three have already gained $0.8 in only 11 total rounds.
