Steven Gerrard says goodbye, offers perspective on career in final press conference at Liverpool

Steven Gerrard said his goodbyes Thursday and offered perspective on his 17 years at Anfield in his final press conference before Liverpool’s season finale Saturday against Crystal Palace.

That game will mark the end of Gerrard’s time with the only club he’s ever represented and start the high-profile transition to MLS and the LA Galaxy. Liverpool daily the Echo provided a complete transcript and video of his comments.

Gerrard singed a Designated Player contract with the Galaxy this winter and is expected to arrive at StubHub Center this summer.

“I look back on it with pride,” Gerrard said in the press conference. “I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved here. All the trophies I’ve won and all the great memories I’ve had. Certainly not winning the Premier League will be a dint in that; there’s nothing I can do about it now.”

In the lengthy press conference, Gerrard recalls a few of his fondest memories with the club that made him an English legend and one of the best players of his generation.

“But there’s no getting away from it, when it comes to the end of that game and it’s time to say goodbye, it will be an emotional time,” he said.
