MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends Montreal Impact head coach Frank Klopas for one game

The MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended Montreal Impact head coach Frank Klopas for one game and fined him an undisclosed amount on Wednesday for violating the league’s policy on entering the field/leaving the bench area in the 90th minute of the Impact’s 2-1 home loss to the Portland Timbers last weekend. Video of the incident is above.

Klopas will miss the Impact’s next MLS match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday at Stade Saputo (4 pm ET, TSN in Canada, MLS Live in the US). The suspension will not apply to the second leg of Montreal’s Amway Canadian Championship semifinal series at Toronto FC on Wednesday.

This is the second time Klopas has been suspended for a match this year. The Impact boss was shown a red card in the second leg of the Impact’s CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series win against Pachuca and missed the first leg of their semifinal against Alajuelense. Montreal assistant Mauro Biello served as head coach in his stead.

The committee also found that both the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC were in violation of the league's Mass Confrontation Policy in the 18th minute of the Red Bulls' win against NYCFC on Sunday.
