Transfer Watch: Speculation continues as Irish forward James McClean travels to New York

Irish winger James McClean is in New York, and that has sparked the latest round of rumors about a potential move to MLS.

Linked last week with a switch to Orlando City or the New York Red Bulls, McClean reportedly flew to the Big Apple over the weekend ahead of a potential move to the latter club. The 26-year-old winger is looking for a new home after spending the past two seasons with Wigan Athletic, who were relegated to England's third division this season despite McClean's strong individual campaign.

An Irish international with 25 caps and four goals since making his debut in 2012, McClean would help address one of the Red Bulls' weaknesses. Jesse Marsch's side recently lost veteran Sal Zizzo for 2-3 months to a fractured tibia, depleting the depth behind starting left midfielder Mike Grella.

If McClean winds up signing with the Red Bulls, he would join the LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane, center back Sean St. Ledger of Orlando City, and Colorado Rapids Designated Player Kevin Doyle as Irish internationals to be under contract with MLS teams this season.
