With most European leagues getting ready to wrap up their seasons, transfer speculation is only just heating up. The latest link being made involves Ghanaian World Cup star Kevin-Prince Boateng and a possible move to MLS.
A report out of Italy on Thursday says that Boateng, who currently plays for German side Schalke, will not return to the Bundesliga club next season and will either go to Turkey to play for Galatasaray or to MLS to play for the New York Red Bulls this summer.
Fueling the rumors was a Thursday report by Kristian Dyer in Metro New York about a potential RBNY Discovery claim on the player, according to an unnamed source, as well as "some level of discussion on coming to the league and possibly signing a contract." Boateng, 28, has played in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups for Ghana, facing off against the US in both tournaments. The German-born midfielder has played for the likes of Hertha Berlin, Tottenham, Portsmouth, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan before landing at Schalke. He won the League Cup with Spurs and a Serie A title with Milan.
A versatile player, Boateng is capable of playing virtually any midfield and forward position.
The Red Bulls currently have two Designated Player slots available, with Bradley Wright-Phillips being the lone DP on the roster at present.
