American Exports: Alejandro Bedoya & Nantes toppled by Paris Saint-Germain

Alejandro Bedoya with FC Nantes

AMSTERDAM – Nantes midfielder Alejandro Bedoya worked a strong full shift on Sunday night, but it wasn't enough as the hosts dropped a 2-0 Ligue 1 decision against streaking table-toppers Paris Saint-Germain.

The US attacker responded to a fast PSG opener by going on the offensive several times despite the champs hogging 60% of possession. Though he started in the No. 10 role, Bedoya freely roamed from flank to flank while asking questions of the away defense.

One Bedoya cross from the left picked out Johann Audel to force a save from eight yards in the 19th minute and another helped Serge Gakpé do the same nearly the same doorstep locale on the half-hour. The Boston College product then threatened to put the Canaries on the board himself four minutes before the break, only to watch his perfectly-placed header from the right channel pushed out of the far corner by PSG netminder Nicolas Douchez.

Bedoya also delivered a trio of tempting right-wing crosses to the PSG area in the waning moments, with one pinballing until Nantes sub Georges-Kévin Nkoudou Mbida had a shot blocked at the six-yard box. For the game, the American completed 32 of 39 passes, including 10 positive connections in or into the final third. He also contributed a pair of pass interceptions and a shot block directly in front of the Canaries' goal on the defensive side of the ball.

While 11th place Nantes remain in pursuit of their Ligue 1 safety clincher, their breathing room on the relegation zone stayed at seven points with but three matches left.
