Colorado Rapids add "true No. 9, target forward" with signing of Argentine attacker Luis Solignac

Colorado Rapids acquire striker Luis Solignac

The Colorado Rapids bolstered their attacking corps with the singing of Argentine striker Luis Solignac, the club announced Friday, pending the receipt of his P-1 visa and ITC.

Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 24-year-old forward arrives from Nueva Chicago of the Argentine first division, where he has scored two goals in 10 appearances this season. Solignac becomes the third Argentine player signed by Colorado for the 2015 regular season, joining Lucas Pittinari and Juan Ramírez.

“He is a true No. 9, a target forward,” Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni said in a statement. “He has very good movement with the ability to bring others into play but he is a good finisher too. So he adds to the offense we already have and he wants to challenge himself in MLS. We believe that he has the right type of mentality for our group.”

Solignac’s globe-trotting career has included stops in Portugal, Sweden and Finand after making his professional debut with Argentina’s Club Atlético Platense in 2008.

“Luis is a player we have been tracking for quite some time and his acquisition is another example of the successful scouting network we have established," VP of soccer operations and technical director Paul Bravo said. “He is an ideal age to be coming to MLS and we feel sure he’ll be able to provide an important option for us in attack.”
