Bonus Points: Who are the most dependable players in MLS Fantasy?

Damien Perrinelle tackles Benny Feilhaber

I wouldn’t fault you if you’re feeling a little gun-shy after last week’s myriad of injuries, red cards and no-shows.

Fantasy managers that didn’t pick the likes of David Villa or Jason Hernandez for their double-game week caught a bit of a break.

This week, I’m going to highlight the top six players in each position, based on how consistent they are at both getting points and getting time on the field. You can use these steady earners to set your team back on the right course:

For the most part, I’ve limited this list to the players that have been on the field for at least 90 percent of their team’s total minutes played. Then I sorted the data by points earned per 90 minutes for each player and took the top six for each position. The only exception to the rule was for forwards, as they have been a little less consistent in minutes than in the other positions.

The biggest standout is Damien Perrinelle – he’s produced an average of 6.2 points per match and only costs $6.7 million. Tread with caution if you pick him up, though: He’s one yellow card away from missing a match for yellow-card accumulation. Only Jamison Olave has earned more points per round – but he’s DEFINITELY going to miss this week for a red-card suspension, so hold off picking him up for now. A reasonable alternative would be Zach Loyd or DaMarcus Beasley. Both have decent matchups for the next couple of rounds, and the Dynamo have an additional benefit of a double-game week in Round 10.

The New York Red Bulls’ attack has been tearing it up this season – Lloyd Sam, Felipe and Bradley Wright-Phillips have each collected over 30 points in their first five games. The Red Bulls play two games in Round 8, but will you risk going with the double-game strategy after what happened to NYCFC last weekend?

Best of luck with your transfers this week – let’s hope the MLS Fantasy gods get some better dice.
