Mexico announce Under-23 roster for Wednesday friendly vs. USMNT U-23s in LA

US U-20 Daniel Garcia and Mexico's Uvaldo Luna

Mexico Under-23 national team head coach Raúl Gutiérrez has named a 20-player roster for Wednesday's friendly at StubHub Center against the US U-23 national team (11pm ET, UniMás, UDN).

Mexico are preparing for the 2015 Pan American Games in Canada, with games beginning July 13, and for the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship, to be played in the US Oct. 1-13.

The roster includes six players from Mexico's 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup championship squad and two more from the team that reached the U-17 World Cup final in 2013.

Houston Dynamo Designated Player Erick "Cubo" Torres, currently on loan to Chivas Guadalajara, was not selected for the squad, nor were former MLS players Giovanni Casillas, Carlos Salcedo and Richard Sanchez.

The squad does include former US U-20 international Uvaldo Luna, born in Houston (pictured above), who represented Mexico at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup after having trained with the US in early 2012.

Other notable names include Toluca forward Marco Bueno (2 goals in the current Clausura) and Tigres midfielder Jonathan Espericueta (scored last Wednesday in Copa Libertadores), with Querétaro defender Gil Burón and Monterrey's Bernardo Hernández among the defensive leaders.
