Independent review panel denies Vancouver Whitecaps appeal of Pedro Morales red card

Whitecaps midfielder Pedro Morales will be suspended for Vancouver’s match at Real Salt Lake on Saturday (9:30 pm ET, TSN, MLS Live) after an independent review panel denied the club’s appeal of his red card from the ‘Caps 1-0 loss at San Jose last weekend.

Morales was shown a straight red card in the 88th minute of Saturday’s match after he and Quakes forward Adam Jahn tangled after Jahn was fouled by Whitecaps defender Jordan Harvey. Referee Edvin Jurisevic ejected both Morales and Jahn for fighting following the incident, video of which is above.

The panel, consisting of one representative each from the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association and Professional Referees Organization (PRO), were not unanimous that the referee had made a serious and obvious error in ejecting Morales.

San Jose did not appeal Jahn’s red card. He will be suspended for the Quakes’ Friday match at the New York Red Bulls (7 pm ET, UniMas).

Per league policy, Vancouver will have one more unsuccessful appeal for any send-off review during the 2015 season. For more on the red card review process, click here.
