DC United midfielder Perry Kitchen added to USMNT roster for friendly against Mexico

D.C. United midfielder Perry Kitchen, fresh off his two-goal performance against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night, was added on Monday to the US national team roster for Wednesday's friendly against Mexico (8:30pm ET, FOX Sports 1, Unimás, UDN).

Kitchen replaces defender Michael Orozco, who was taken off the roster following discussions with his club, Liga MX side Puebla.

Kitchen, 23, earned his first call-up to the national team in January and made his US debut on Feb. 8 against Panama.

The third overall pick in the 2011 SuperDraft, Kitchen started at least 30 games for D.C. in each of his first four years in the league. The Indianapolis native was part of the US Under-23 national team that failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.

Kitchen – ranked No. 18 on MLSsoccer.com's 24 Under 24 list in 2014 – is the 14th MLS player named to Jurgen Klinsmann's 22-man roster for Wednesday's match.
