MLS Fantasy Boss: Forget DGWs, here are the top single-game transfer targets for Round 6

TRANSFER DEADLINE: Wednesday, 10 pm ET

The time has finally come. After weeks of reminders, planning, and maybe a couple of last minute -4 transfers, we’re finally ready for 2015's first double game week (DGW, if you're somehow not down with the lingo yet).

We all know who the top picks are from Vancouver and Columbus, so I’m not going bore you by reviewing the same DGW players again. Instead, I’m going to highlight some of the less-fancied single-game players who I think stand a chance to give their DGW counterparts a run for their money.

On to the picks!

Goalkeepers

  • Undeniable Truth: I struggled a lot with which SGW 'keepers to recommend until I finally accepted the truth: There aren’t any. You need a DGW netminder for this round and it’s worth a four-point penalty to get one.
  • Twist My Arm Pick: If I had to pick one SGW keeper, it would be Chris Seitz (DAL $5.1m). Even though he allowed three goals against Portland, I don’t expect Colorado’s attack to break its scoreless streak at Dallas on Friday.

Defenders

  • Safe Bet: With Colorado the only team yet to score a goal, it’s hard to not bet on their opponent earning clean-sheet points. This is why Zach Loyd (DAL $7.8m) is again on my list. I expect him to return to center back and get back to tallying the bonus points we fantasy managers love.
  • MLS Fantasy Boss: Forget DGWs, here are the top single-game transfer targets for Round 6 -

    Dyno-Mite
: Houston may not have figured out how to score goals yet, but they do know how to prevent them when at home. This makes
    Jermaine Taylor
($6.6m) an appealing transfer target, especially when you factor in the fact that Montreal will only have a few days to recover from their emotional CCL semifinal.

  • The Other Red Bull: If you’re searching for another value CB option, then Damien Perrinelle (NY $6.6m) is one to take a look at. Forget the home games and upcoming DGW for the Red Bulls and just remember this: They’re the only team to beat D.C. this season, and they got a clean sheet in the process.

  • Midfielders

  • DGW Killer: If you read Travis Luscombe’s latest article, then you already know that New England had the best points-per-game average against DGW teams in 2014. That history is bad news for Columbus, but good news for Lee Nguyen ($11.1m), who’s starting to round into form after notching a goal and assist in his past two games.
  • MLS Fantasy Boss: Forget DGWs, here are the top single-game transfer targets for Round 6 -

    Sam He Am:
    Lloyd Sam
($8.7m) has been a big part of New York’s hot start, helping fill the void created by Thierry Henry’s retirement with two goals in his first three games. One of those goals came against D.C., so we already know he has what it takes to come away with points in this weekend’s rematch.

  • The Under Owned: 40 points leave Javier Morales (RSL $11.1m) tied for the most fantasy points in the league this season, yet he’s owned by just 12.2 percent of managers. He’s expensive, but I believe he’s worth it, especially with SKC only keeping one home clean sheet in three games.

  • Forwards

    • The Pricy Risk: Is he fit? Will he play? I don’t know for sure, but David Villa’s (NYC $11.1m) latest Twitter post shows the Designated Player back at training. He hasn’t quite lived up to expectations so far, but with Philly planning to bench starting ‘keeper Rais Mbolhi, Villa has a good chance to increase his goal total this round.
    • Form and Fixture: The defensive dam in Colorado has finally been broken, and I don’t think Blas Perez (DAL $9.3m) will allow them to plug it in Round 6. Expect Perez to play a lot more than 29 minutes in this game and to return to his pre-international call-up scoring form.

Did you bring in any single game week players for this round or are you loaded up with DGW guys? If so, how many DGW players did you decide to go with?
