TRANSFER DEADLINE: Wednesday, 10 pm ET
- MLS Injury Report
- MLS Disciplinary Report
- BYES IN ROUND 6: CHI, TOR
- UPCOMING DOUBLE GAME WEEKS: NYC, PHI (Rd 7)
- Bonus Points: Do the opponents of double game week teams have an edge?
- Fantasy Doctor: Take full advantage of the first double match week of the year
The time has finally come. After weeks of reminders, planning, and maybe a couple of last minute -4 transfers, we’re finally ready for 2015's first double game week (DGW, if you're somehow not down with the lingo yet).
We all know who the top picks are from Vancouver and Columbus, so I’m not going bore you by reviewing the same DGW players again. Instead, I’m going to highlight some of the less-fancied single-game players who I think stand a chance to give their DGW counterparts a run for their money.
On to the picks!
Goalkeepers
- Undeniable Truth: I struggled a lot with which SGW 'keepers to recommend until I finally accepted the truth: There aren’t any. You need a DGW netminder for this round and it’s worth a four-point penalty to get one.
- Twist My Arm Pick: If I had to pick one SGW keeper, it would be Chris Seitz (DAL $5.1m). Even though he allowed three goals against Portland, I don’t expect Colorado’s attack to break its scoreless streak at Dallas on Friday.
Defenders
Dyno-Mite
: Houston may not have figured out how to score goals yet, but they do know how to prevent them when at home. This makes
Jermaine Taylor
($6.6m) an appealing transfer target, especially when you factor in the fact that Montreal will only have a few days to recover from their emotional CCL semifinal.
Midfielders
Sam He Am:
Lloyd Sam
($8.7m) has been a big part of New York’s hot start, helping fill the void created by Thierry Henry’s retirement with two goals in his first three games. One of those goals came against D.C., so we already know he has what it takes to come away with points in this weekend’s rematch.
Forwards
- The Pricy Risk: Is he fit? Will he play? I don’t know for sure, but David Villa’s (NYC $11.1m) latest Twitter post shows the Designated Player back at training. He hasn’t quite lived up to expectations so far, but with Philly planning to bench starting ‘keeper Rais Mbolhi, Villa has a good chance to increase his goal total this round.
- Form and Fixture: The defensive dam in Colorado has finally been broken, and I don’t think Blas Perez (DAL $9.3m) will allow them to plug it in Round 6. Expect Perez to play a lot more than 29 minutes in this game and to return to his pre-international call-up scoring form.
Did you bring in any single game week players for this round or are you loaded up with DGW guys? If so, how many DGW players did you decide to go with?
