American Exports: A.J. Soares returns to training with Viking, full return not expected until early May

A.J. Soares with Viking

AMSTERDAM – Viking defender A.J. Soares has resumed training with the ball, but the club says they don't expect him to be fit enough to make his competitive debut for the Tippeligaen outfit until early May.

The former New England Revolution back liner suffered a sprained knee ligament in a training collision four weeks ago.

"He is on schedule," Viking press officer Ole J. Askeland told MLSsoccer.com on Wednesday. "We hoped he will be back on the field in a month's time."

Viking kicked off the new league season with a 1-0 defeat away to Rhett Bernstein's Mjøndalen on Monday. If his recovery stays on course, Soares could conceivably make his club bow when the Dark Blues host 2014 bronze medalists Odds FK on May 10.
