American Exports: Eric Lichaj, Nottingham Forest lose ground in Championship promotion race

AMSTERDAM – Eric Lichaj and Nottingham Forest lost ground in the Championship race for promotion on Friday night, falling 2-1 at home to Wolverhampton.

Stationed at left back, the American put on a lively two-way display that deserved a better team result. In addition to leading all players with four tackles and his team with six clearances, Lichaj was involved in close calls at both ends of the field.

In the 32nd minute, Lichaj rescued his keeper with a goal-line clearance to temporarily keep the game scoreless. After Wolves opened the second half with a goal, the defender fell short in his bid for a highlight reel strike, pulling his shot wide of the target after leaving a trio of defenders in his wake.

In all, Lichaj completed 42 of 55 passes, including 10 forward connections in or into the attacking half. However, Forest would drop their second straight match to drift 11 points away from a promotion playoff berth with six games to play.
