Topps 2015 MLS cards

Trading cards may be in a different place from their heyday in the early-1990s, but they still have a role to play in the sporting culture.

Sure, cards have gone digital, something totally inconceivable a mere 20 years ago. You can collect virtual cards of English Premier League, Bundesliga, and yes, MLS players, including the updated 2015 version for the latter league, on the Topps KICK platform, available in your favorite app stores.

But say you're looking for a more tangible collectible, one you can lay out on your floor in your favorite formations, pitting card team against card team (not that we know anything about that kind of thing). Topps has also released their 2015 MLS series in physical form, complete with a value box retailing at $19.99 and a 24-pack box for $49.99, both for sale on the company's website.

If you are one of those people who prefers to buy a complete set directly instead of building your set painstakingly by yourself, there are sites around the internet that are selling those that you should be able to find with minimal effort. And we all know the way to keep the cards in the best condition and to preserve the value in the best way is to leave them in the original packs and never touch them.

We won't judge you if you want to buy a complete set, or if you just want to sit on a bunch of unopened packs, but -- there's just something thrilling about opening up a fresh pack of cards and seeing what's inside, isn't there?

Happy hunting.
