American Exports: Jake Keegan strikes in losing effort for Galway

Jake Keegan, Galway United

AMSTERDAM – Jake Keegan struck early for his first goal of the young League of Ireland Premier Division season on Friday night, but nine-man Galway United would end up falling 2-1 on a late stoppage time decider by visiting Longford Town.

Just six minutes in, the American striker's flick allowed Jason Molloy to get loose and force a good save from the away netminder. Keegan, who led promoted Galway with 13 league goals last term, followed up on the play to fire home the rebound. He would also help set up a great 13th minute chance that saw teammate Enda Curran's shot deflect just wide off a defender.

The Tribesmen's attack became much quieter after the home side was reduced to 10 men midway through the opening frame and Keegan was eventually removed in the 66th minute. Fresh Galway signing Kevin Garcia, a 2012 New England Revs supplemental draft pick, entered the match in a separate substitution at the same time to work left back.

With but one win in the first five games of the season, Galway tentatively stand ninth in the table.
