New York Red Bulls add depth at left back with signing of Jamaican international Kemar Lawrence

New York Red Bulls sign Jamaican international Kemar Lawrence

The new-look New York Red Bulls continue to tinker with their roster.

The Red Bulls announced Monday afternoon that they have signed left back Kemar Lawrence, landing him on a transfer with Jamaican side Harbour View FC. Lawrence, a 22-year-old Jamaican international, has been on trial with New York since the start of the third phase of their preseason.

"We're delighted to be able to add Kemar to our club," Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis said in a statement. "He is a promising young player with experience at a big club in Jamaica and with the national team. His style of play fits with what we're trying to establish here."

Lawrence broke into Harbour View's senior team in 2011 and made 50 appearances for the club through 2014 while also winning the Jamaican National Premier League in 2013. He also has made 13 appearances and scored twice for the Reggae Boyz since making his international debut in 2013.

Lawrence is expected to provide cover at left back, where Roy Miller is the starter.

"It is a step in the right direction, and thanks to all my teammates, coaches, club, agent, family and friends," Lawrence said in the same statement. "It was possible because they stuck around and kept their prayers going day after day, saying that there is going to be a breakthrough."
