WATCH: David Villa scores the first goal in New York City FC's historic home opener

It was only fitting.


David Villa, the first player in New York City FC history, scored the first goal in the expansion club’s historic home opener on Sunday, sending the big Yankee Stadium crowd into hysterics with a 19th minute strike.


Villa executed a perfect give-and-go with Ned Grabavoy on the left side, collecting the return pass and slotting a shot inside the far post to give NYCFC a 1-0 lead against the New England Revolution.
