American Exports: Aron Johannsson held scoreless as AZ fall to second straight Eredivisie defeat

AMSTERDAM – Aron Johannsson and AZ Alkmaar suffered consecutive Eredivisie defeats for the first time since August on Friday night, conceding twice in the last 18 minutes to fall 3-1 at Vitesse.

The US forward came up empty on the night, snapping a two-game goal streak against the GelreDome crew. Johannsson had a pair of good looks at goal in the first half, but both his 10-yard shot attempts were cruelly blocked. For the game, Johannsson completed 19 of 23 passes.

The result not only cost fourth place AZ a chance to tentatively hold the last Europa League slot on offer in the Netherlands, it also allowed Vitesse to pull to within three points of the beaten visitors.
