AMSTERDAM – Tim Howard and Everton have one leg in the Europa League quarterfinals after fighting back for a 2-1 victory over Dinamo Kyiv at Goodison Park on Thursday night.
The netminder would have probably loved another crack at stopping Sergei Gusev's near-post strike from a corner kick in the 14th minute, but rallied with two saves and a cross capture. Howard's best stop of the night came shortly before Steven Naismith tied the game on 37 minutes, as he denied a Sergiy Sydorchuk long-range drive headed for the lower corner.
Thanks to Romelu Lukaku's penalty kick with eight minutes left, the Toffees will head to Ukraine for next Thursday's deciding leg with a slim lead.
