American Exports: Amando Moreno scores as Club Tijuana win, book top seed in Copa MX quarterfinals

Amando Moreno, Club Tijuana

Amando Moreno scored the clincher for Club Tijuana as the Xolos confirmed their passage to the knockout stages of Copa MX with a 2-0 win over Leones Negros on Tuesday night at Estadio Caliente.

Moreno, who was joined in the starting 11 by fellow Yanks Paul Arriola and Alejandro Guido, finished off a pass from Henry Martin in the 59th minute to notch his second goal of the tournament. Xolos have earned the top seed for the quarterfinal draw, having completing the group stage undefeated with four wins and two draws.

Los Angeles native Jesus Vasquez started and logged a full 90 for the visiting team.

Jonathan Bornstein went the distance at left back for Queretaro, who rallied for a 2-2 draw at defending Copa MX champions Santos Laguna thanks to a brace from Angel Sepulveda. With that result, Los Gallos Blancos also advance to the tournament's quarterfinal stage, at the expense of the holders.

UC Irvine product Enrique Cardenas came off the bench to log 13-plus minutes for Atlante, but he was unable to prevent Los Potros Hierros from falling 2-0 to Emanuel Guzman and regional rivals Merida, who are seeking to overtake Herculez Gomez and Michael Orozco's Puebla, who still have one game left to play, and advance as the top finisher from Group 5. Puebla could still advance as one of the top runners-up.
