American Exports: Joe Corona, Greg Garza look to maintain Club Tijuana's place atop Liga MX

Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA – Joe Corona and Greg Garza’s Club Tijuana are picking up confidence by the week and will be attempting to extend their winning streak to 12 matches on Friday.

Liga MX leaders Xolos face Pachuca in Estadio Caliente (10:30 pm ET; Azteca America, ESPN Deportes), looking to at least maintain their two-point lead at the top of the table in Round 8 of games this weekend.

Garza (pictured above) is likely to start in his usual left back position, while Corona has been used off the bench so far this season and it is difficult to see coach Daniel Guzman changing a winning formula.

Earlier Friday, Gabriel Farfan’s Chiapas are on the road against last-placed Morelia (8:30 pm ET; Azteca America, ESPN Deportes), with the San Diego native hoping to build on his recent minutes in the Copa MX.

On Saturday, both Club América and young defender Ventura Alvarado are flying at the moment, and are heavy favorites to defeat Jesus Vazquez’s relegation strugglers Leones Negros in the Estadio Azteca (6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

At the same time Saturday, Herculez Gomez, Michael Orozco and Puebla will be hoping to take advantage if Leones Negros do lose – to increase the gap in the relegation table – against Jonathan Bornstein’s Querétaro (6 pm ET; Azteca America, ESPN Deportes) and new head coach Victor Manuel Vucetich.

Gomez goes into the game on the back of a two-goal performance midweek in the Copa MX, while Orozco has started every game of the Clausura to date.

Over in Guadalajara, Edgar Castillo wasn’t one of the eight Atlas players to stay in South America after the team’s 1-0 win on Wednesday against Atlético Mineiro in the Copa Libertadores. The left back will, therefore, be available for the Rojinegros’ clash in Estadio Jalisco against Veracruz on Saturday evening (10 pm ET; Univision Deportes).
