Former New York Red Bulls star Thierry Henry joins Arsenal as youth coach

Thierry Henry’s time away from the pitch didn’t last very long.

The French legend, who retired from the game last winter after four and a half seasons with the New York Red Bulls, has joined former club Arsenal as a youth coach, The Mirror reported earlier this week. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed the move to media Friday, according to a report on Goal.com.

"Thierry Henry is making his first steps as a coach," Wenger said. "It's good for our youngsters to be coached by him. He's been here once or twice. All our former players are welcome to come back here and get their coaching badges. We're happy to have him."

Henry announced his retirement Dec. 16 last year, marking the end to his more than 20-year professional career. He appeared a club-record 228 times for Arsenal from 1999-2007 and then during a brief loan stint there in 2012.

Following his retirement, he joined Sky Sports as an analyst.
