The New York Red Bulls may be without another international legend.

According to a report in Ugandan daily New Vision, Ibrahim Sekagya has retired after two seasons in MLS with the Red Bulls. Lauded as one of the most successful players in Ugandan national team history, Sekagya, 30, has been capped 35 times for The Cranes.

“It has been a wonderful journey for me. It has been remarkable experience for me,” Sekagya told New Vision.

The report indicates that Sekagya was offered a coaching job with New York’s “Team B,” presumably the Red Bulls’ USL PRO team Red Bulls II, and also had other offers to play in MLS and Europe. There has been no official word from the New York Red Bulls concerning the report.

"I have taken the decision after consulting with my family and I believe it’s the right time to start a new chapter with Red Bulls. I am still part of the Red Bulls family and I thank them for giving me the opportunity to continue working with them,” he says in the report.

His apparent retirement comes just months after French legend Thierry Henry retired after four seasons with RBNY.

Sekagya joined the Red Bulls midway through the 2013 season after six seasons with Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga, where he won three league titles and one Austrian Cup championship.

With New York, he made 33 total appearances (31 starts) and helped lead the team to a Supporters’ Shield in 2013 and the Eastern Conference championship round of the MLS Cup Playoffs last season.

Sekagya started his professional career in 1997 with Ugandan side State House FC and played for Argentine clubs Atletico de Rafaela, Ferro Carril Oeste and Arsenal de Sarandi.
